Palumbo Industries joined the ADMA pilot program in 2020. People from many different departments (quality, method, production, management) joined forces towards the integration of the ADMA methodology in the factory.

Palumbo Industries was created by Francois Palumbo in 1978 starting with metal machining activities on transfer machines.

Today, their business activities have expanded towards precision profile machining, precision engineering on transfer and CNC machines as well as realization of specific transfer machines.

Palumbo Industries employs 50 people, and invests 6% of its turnover in various R&D projects in order to optimize the machining processes. They hold 3 high precision surface finish machining patents.

Two major challenges and corresponding innovation areas were identified during several workshops with ADMA partner CETIM.

First, Palumbo Industries choose to focus upon the “Digital Factory” transformation area, with the aim of digitizing the complete company. The resulting implementation plan addresses themes like Cybersecurity and Connected maintenance. This year, a new “Factory of the Future” concept is being implemented through the implementation and integration of a “Manufacturing Execution System”.

Secondly, the “Human Centred Organisation” axis was identified as an important project for the company. During a seminar, with all the ADMA project team from Palumbo industries, they defined a roadmap on this axis, in particular on improving their internal communication.

A FEW QUESTIONS FOR PALUMBO

Which of the services provided by the ADMA advisor were most useful?

Following services were valued most:

Organization and planning of the project with monthly monitoring

Involvement of the team to co-construct the company’s digital transition project

“Best practices” among colleagues of other companies.

Was the ADMA Project support tailored enough to your specific needs?

Yes. The CETIM advisor gave a very detailed explanation via a roadmap of the various possible actions towards the factory of the future.

What does “Factory of the Future” mean to you?

Digital transition, business data processing, and the automation of low Value Added tasks.

Which project(s) did bring the highest shift in employee engagement? Why?

The possibility of displaying production data on an interactive screen in the workshop, visible to all clearly proved to create a high shift in employee engagement.
